Carbon County officials have announced the 2019 Community Development Block Grant program recipients and projects.
Projects for both entitlement and nonentitlement communities are listed below. Communities over a 4,000 population are called entitlement communities and receive funding automatically; while those that have a population under 4,000 must apply for a portion of the nonentitlement funds.
Entitlement projects
• Franklin Township, $92,905 for water/sewer improvements to Red Hill Road.
• Jim Thorpe, $98,129 for a water main replacement project on Church Alley. The project costs $399,100 and is using CDBG funds 2017, 2018 and 2019.
• Lehighton, $106,776 for community grove playground improvements at Seventh, Eighth and Iron streets.
• Mahoning Township, $93,337 for street improvements to Center Road from Mahoning Street to Maple Drive.
• Palmerton, $104,501 for street improvements to Mauch Chunk Road south side from Church Street to Linden Street.
Nonentitlement projects
Nonentitlement project communities are selected annually by the county to share in a portion of CDBG designated to Carbon County.
Projects include:
• Banks Township, $57,470 toward the reconstruction/repaving of South Church, S and P streets.
• Bowmanstown, $77,730 for the installation of ADA curbs throughout the borough.
• Summit Hill, $72,235 for street improvements to Holland Street between Chestnut and Market streets.
