Lehighton Band to present second free Concert in the Park

The Lehighton Band will present its second Concert in the Park at 8 p.m. Thursday in the Lehighton Borough Amphitheater.

The concert is free to the public. In the event of rain the concert will be held in the Pfc. Clyde R. Houser Jr. Building borough annex.This concert will be primarily patriotic in nature, and will also feature several marches from John Philip Sousa.The concert will open with Sousa's Bell of Chicago, which will be followed by a concert piece entitled Amber Waves of Grain. This beautiful arrangement melds together America the Beautiful with original music, creating a contemporary version of a beloved classic.A Nation's Prayer will be the next piece of the program, which combines the patriotic hymns God of Our Father and The Battle Hymn of the Republic.Sousa's march, The Liberty Bell, will round out this portion of the concert.Next up will be God Bless the USA, a song made famous by Lee Greenwood. This song has become a classic, and in this concert, will be a sing-along with Joe Plechavy leading the audience in the singing of this crowd favorite.The band will then perform a beautiful piece of music entitled Afterlife. This stirring arrangement was donated to the Lehighton Band by the Lehighton Boys and Girls Band in memory of the band's longtime director, Paul R. Smith.Returning to the concert's patriotic theme, the band will play the classic You're a Grand Old Flag, followed by Majestia, a high-energy piece of concert music by popular band arranger James Swearingen.Yankee Doodle Boy will be the next selection, followed by the song simply entitled Happy, which appeared in the movie Despicable Me 2, and was made famous by singer Pharell Williams. This piece is sure to have the audience tapping their feet.The concert will end with Sousa's Stars and Stripes Forever. This march is thought by many to be Sousa's most famous march of all time. In 1987, by an act of Congress, The Stars and Stripes forever was named the national march of the United States of America.The band is under the direction of Bradly R. Cressley.
