Southeast Regional wrestling this weekend

The road to Hersehy is one that’s filled with twists and turns.

Wrestlers have to navigate one more bend before punching their ticket to the state tournament.

And it’s a big one.

This weekend’s Southeast Regional tournament will feature 12 Times News area wrestlers looking to keep their seasons alive and reach their desired final destination in Hershey.

Jim Thorpe’s Ethan Mordaunt and Tamaqua’s Bronson Strouse are riding high after winning district titles a week ago. Lehighton’s Logan Pagotto and Northwestern’s Jake Dellicker are coming off runner-up finishes at the district tournament.

The Indians lead the way with four regional qualifiers. In addition to Pagotto, Lucas Sangiuliano (126), Chris Whiteman (145) and Alex Zeigenfuss (195) are also headed to Wilson West Lawn.

Jim Thorpe and Tamaqua each have three regional qualifers, while Northwestern has two.

Jake Dellicker, Mordaunt, Strouse and Whiteman are the only returning regional qualifiers from a year ago. Northwestern’s Caleb Clymer captured his first regional crown on his march to a state title last season.

The top-six at the Southeast Regional tournament qualify for states.
