Woman cited for drunkenness

A former Pottsville woman, staying with a friend in Tamaqua, was cited by police on April 25 after becoming a public nuisance.

Police received a report about a woman yelling loudly at the intersection of Pine and Mauch Chunk streets at 11:25 p.m., but were unable to find anyone at the scene.A second call came in at 11:53 concerning a woman who was yelling and attempting to stop traffic in the area of Pine and Vine streets. Officers found Melissa Ann Rossin, 42, in a highly intoxicated condition, weaving back and forth in the roadway in the 300 block of Pine Street. A car traveling north stopped to avoid hitting her and she started banging on that car as police arrived. As Rossin stumbled toward the officer she tripped and fell on her face.An ambulance was called to evaluate her condition. She refused to go to the hospital, so EMS checked her vital signs and cleaned up the scrapes and scratches she received when she fell.Officers took her to 222 E. Broad St., where she said she was staying with a friend.At 12:45 a.m. police received a call about an unconscious woman found in the eighth floor hallway at 222 E. Broad St. It was Rossin, who was then transported to St. Luke's Miners Hospital in Coaldale, due to her intoxicated condition.She will receive a citation for public drunkenness.
