Schuylkill crashes
State police at Schuylkill Haven reported on four crashes investigated by troopers:
• A crash was reported on Nov. 29 about 6:46 a.m. along Hemlock Drive in North Manheim Township. Troopers said a 2004 Honda Accord was operated southbound at a high rate of speed when the driver failed to negotiate a left curve. The driver lost control with the Honda traveling through both travel lanes for about 15 feet before going onto the east berm, where it struck a tree with the front end. After impact the Honda continued southeast direction for another 60 feet and came to rest facing southeast along the east berm.
The driver then fled the scene. The investigation into the crash is continuing.
• The second crash occurred at 7:25 a.m. on Friday again along Hemlock Drive in North Manheim Township. Troopers said a 17-year-old male from Pottsville was driving a 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt southbound when the vehicle struck patches of ice, causing the teen to lose control. The Cobalt went onto the west berm where it struck an embankment with the right front of the vehicle. After impact the Cobalt re-entered the southbound lane and came to rest facing southeast.
The teen was not injured but was cited for the crash. The Cobalt was towed from the scene.
• A Schuylkill County driver was injured in a one-vehicle crash at 6:37 a.m. Saturday along Route 924 in East Union Township.
State police at Frackville said Michael T. Heiler, 58, of Ringtown, was driving a 2009 Chevrolet Silverado truck southbound when he failed to negotiate a right turn in the road after experiencing a medical emergency. The truck traveled onto the east berm and struck the guide rail. It continued over the guide rail and down about a 50-foot embankment, coming to rest against some trees.
Heiler was taken to a nearby landing site where he was flown to the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, for treatment of what troopers said were moderate injuries.
Troopers cited Heiler for the crash.
• Troopers also reported investigating a crash at 1:05 a.m. Monday along Interstate 81 in Kline Township. Troopers said Stevens E. Garcon, 19, of Breinigsville, Lehigh County, was southbound when his 2015 Nissan Altima left the road and struck a rock embankment in the median.
Garcon was not injured but the vehicle had to be towed. He was cited for the crash.
