Drugs send man to jail

A Drums man spent four days in the Schuylkill County prison this month after he was found with drugs at the Fegley Mini Mart in Tamaqua on Jan. 14.

Store employees contacted Tamaqua Police at 9:31 a.m. concerning a suspicious person who was spending a great deal of time in the men’s room.

Officers arrived, knocked on the door and were greeted by Killian Schelble, 21. Schelble used sign language and notes to tell officers he was hydrating himself due to a gastrointestinal issue.

The only identification he had in his wallet was an ACCESS card.

In the left side pocket of his jacket, officers found a syringe, while a large roll of cash was in his right pocket. That led to a search of a red backpack Schelble had on him. Inside the backpack was a white plastic container, which had a piece of masking tape with the words “do not touch” on the top. Inside that container were orange syringe caps, a clear plastic tube, a cotton filter and a folded sheet of paper containing a crystal substance that field tested positive for methamphetamine. They also recovered two cellphones and a straw with a burned end.

Schelble, assisted by an interpreter, was arraigned before duty District Magisterial Judge David Plachko on charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Bail was originally set at $20,000 percentage, which he was unable to post, sending him to the county jail.

Bail was reduced to $1,000 unsecured on Jan. 18.
