A Lehighton man was charged with driving drunk after being involved in a hit-and-run crash in the 500 block of Old Berwick Road, arrest papers say.

Matthew Bizarre, 26, was found asleep inside his damaged Cadillac sedan parked along Riverview Avenue off Central Road in Scott Township following the Sept. 27 incident.

Town police said a witness had warned them of a vehicle traveling into Scott Township and pulling onto Central Road. Bizarre told police he stopped on his way up to Interstate 80 and was waiting for a friend to pick him up.

He was taken to the DUI Booking Center where his blood-alcohol level was tested at 0.18 percent.

He is scheduled to appear in district court on Nov. 7.
