Swiftwater residents face animal cruelty charges

Two Swiftwater residents are facing charges of cruelty to animals after abandoning a pit bull outside a residence they were to be evicted from, according to state police at the Stroudsburg barracks.

Kathleen Doerling, 64, and Lyle Edmond, 35, were charged after the incident.

Police said they were summoned to 484 N. Easton Belmont Pike, Hamilton Township, at 3 p.m. Oct. 6 after a female pit bull named “Bluie,” approximately one year of age, was left tied to a tree and abandoned in front of the residence. Police said it was discovered the dog was placed there by the accused because they could no longer care for it due to possibly being evicted if the dog remained in the home.

Police said the pit bull was taken to the Creature Comforts Veterinary Hospital, where she was eventually adopted and placed into a good home. The pit bull suffered minor brush burns on the inside of her right back leg from the rope that was used to tie her to the tree, police said.
