Local Roundup: Results from April 25

The Northwestern baseball and softball teams both posted victories over Northern Lehigh Friday.

Elsewhere, the Jim Thorpe baseball and Pleasant Valley softball teams also secured wins.

BASEBALL

Northern Lehigh-Northwestern

Northwestern jumped ahead by a big margin early and then hung to post a 12-10 Colonial League victory over Northern Lehigh.

Cole Dynda blasted a three-homer during an eight-run first inning to give the Tigers a commanding lead. Nolan Fitzgerald and Brady Zimmerman also deliver RBI hits during the frame.

But the Bulldogs rallied, eventually trimming the deficit to just 11-10 in the fourth.

Parker Schaffer collected two hits, including a three-run homer that pulled Nolehi within a run. Teammate Pablo Rivera also finished with three hits and two RBIs.

For the Tigers, Weston Church and Aidan Freeman both ended with a pair of hits and two runs, while Josh Farber added two hits and a run.

Panther Valley-Jim Thorpe

Brody Schrantz had a big day at the plate as Jim Thorpe rolled to an 11-1 non-league victory over Panther Valley.

Schrantz went 3-for-3 with a triple, walked once, scored two runs and knocked in three for the Olympians, who blew the game open with a six-run third inning.

Cole Lazorick also contributed heavily on offense for the winners, collecting a pair of hits — one a double — and scoring three times. Lazorick also added two RBIs.

Michael Antignani chipped in with two hits and two RBIs for the winners, who snapped a five-game losing streak, while Nathan Frantz had a double and two RBIs.

Kaden Hess earned the win, allowing just four hits in five inning while striking out three.

For PV, Brody Breiner had two hits and an RBI, while Chase Krynock ended with a pair of hits.

PM East-Pleasant Valley

An early lead for Pocono Mountain held up as the Cardinals earned an 8-4 EPC victory over Pleasant Valley.

Bobby Ehrmann had two hits, a run and an RBI for the winners, who led 5-1 after two innings.

Devon Jackson chipped in with a hit and two RBIs for East, while Brady Marabell gained the win allowing just two hits and striking out five in 5 2/3 innings.

The Bears received a pair of hits and two RBIs from Cameron King. Kole Henry reached base four times with a hit and three walks and also scored three runs.

SOFTBALL

Northern Lehigh-Northwestern

Abby Dunstan and Shelby Mitman both slugged two-run homers to power Northwestern to a 6-2 Colonial League victory over Northern Lehigh.

Dunstan’s blast came in the second inning to give the Tigers a 4-1 lead, while Mitman’s shot ended the scoring.

Dunstan had two hits for the winners, who remained undefeated in league play, while Rylee McGinley chipped in with a hit and two runs. Emma Freeman gained the win, sllowing six hits while striking out nine.

For the Bulldogs, Grace Bauer had two hits, and Kylee Snyder connected for a solo homer.

PM East-Pleasant Valley

Pleasant Valley rallied from an early deficit and Allison Borger and Jovie Valenzuela both hit homers as the Bears pulled away from Pocono Mountain East for an 11-4 EPC victory.

PV, which trailed 3-0 after three innings, pounded out 18 hits and used a seven-run fourth to take the lead for good.

Winning pitcher K Getz had four hits for the winners, while Valenzuela finished with three extra base hits, two doubles and the homer. She also scored twice and knocked in a pair.

Borger collected two hits and three RBIs, and R Knapp added a pair of hits and scored two runs.

Lourdes-Weatherly

Weatherly scored 10 runs but it wasn’t nearly enough as Lourdes registered a 25-10 non-league victory.

Winning pitcher Brynn Barcavage was a force offensively with three hits — two of them doubles — and six RBIs, while Gabby Dosendschine added three hits, four runs and two RBIs.

For the Wreckers, Rebecca Caldwell finished with a pair of hits and two RBIs. Abby Weston and Rachel Rosenlund both added a hit and knocked in a pair of runs.
