Tamaqua to host annual spring choral program

The Tamaqua Senior High School Vocal Music Department will present its annual Spring Choral Program at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the Tamaqua Area Auditorium.

The concert will feature performances by the High School Concert Choir and the Jazz and Concert Chorale.

The Concert Choir will open the concert with “How Can I Keep from Singing?” arranged by Russell Robinson. “Hlohonolofatsa,” a South African song of greeting, will follow and feature students selected to participate in Schuylkill County Chorus this past year.

The Jazz and Concert Chorale will take the stage next singing a wide variety of musical styles and selections. The chorale will begin with “Will the Circle Be Unbroken,” arranged by Donald Moore. A few jazz tunes will follow as the chorale will sing “When October Goes/Autumn Leaves” and the swinging Duke Ellington classic “Duke’s Place.”

The women of the chorale will sing “Where the Light Begins” by Susan LaBarr. The men will perform “Stay Gold” from the smash Broadway show The Outsiders.

The jazz chorale will close their set with “Bohemian Rhapsody” by the rock supergroup Queen. The concert choir returns to sing highlights from the popular 2025 musical “Wicked.”

The concert comes to a close with the inspirational “You Raise Me Up” dedicated to the parents and families of the class of 2025.

Accompanists for the choirs are Cecilia Ulicny and Debra Sweeney. The choirs are under the direction of John D. Buglio.

There is an admission fee.

Doors to the auditorium will open at 6:45 p.m.
