The 23rd Annual Telethon of the Carbon-Tamaqua Unit of the American Cancer Society ended at midnight last night with an astounding total of $122,013 in pledges and donations, way over the announced $100,000 goal that had been set for the event.
The total also surpasses the $108,488 total that was realized in 2001.
The 24-hour show, spread over two days, ended with telethon veteran Danny Farole singing “Those Were the Days” as volunteers who should have been weary from their marathon gathered on the dance floor at Penn’s Peak, the former Ramblers Ranch, to dance and celebrate.
The highlight of the Saturday’s program was the appearance of the Cipko Brothers, who came with a $5,000 check.
