Morgan Foundation donates $60,000 to Tamaqua pool
The John E. Morgan Foundation once again donated $60,000 to help with operation and maintenance of Tamaqua’s community pool.
The foundation has made the donation each year for more than two decades.
Funds are used for the H.D. Buehler Memorial Pool at Bungalow Park.
Tamaqua Borough Council adopted a resolution this week to accept the donation.
Also during Tuesday’s meeting, council approved a lease agreement with Debra Sebelin for the pool concession stand.
Sebelin held the lease in 2024.
The pool will open for the season on May 31. The borough has hired several lifeguards but more are needed.
In other business, council:
• Approved handicapped parking space applications for 304 W. Spruce St. and 623 Arlington St.
• Approved a request from David Meredith, of the Tamaqua American Legion, to hold the annual Memorial Day Parade beginning at 10 a.m. May 26 from East Broad Street.
• Approved a request from the Tamaqua Area Chamber of Commerce and Owl Creek Reservoir Commission to use Owl Creek for Tamaqua’s first Community Day on May 31. The event will feature a fishing derby, competitive race, tournament and food trucks. Volunteers will direct traffic.
• Approved a request for the Tamaqua Odd Fellows to close several streets for the 34th annual Tamaqua Summerfest on June 14. Streets include South Railroad Street from West Broad to Spruce streets; Berwick Street from West Broad to Hegarty Avenue; and Hegarty Avenue near the blacksmith shop. The Odd Fellows took over planning for the annual festival from the Tamaqua Area Historical Society. All vendors and crafters will set up on South Railroad Street.
