Franklin hires attorney to buy property

Franklin Township officials are remaining mum on the potential purchase of land in the municipality.

On a 2-0 vote, supervisors on Tuesday hired attorney Chuck Smith for property acquisitions within the township.

Supervisor Leroy Kemmerer Jr. was absent.

The board held no further discussion on the topic.

Under public participation, resident and former Supervisor Robin Cressley inquired about the township’s decision to hire an attorney for property acquisitions.

However, neither the board nor township solicitor Tom Nanovic would elaborate on the matter.

“(The township is) looking to acquire some property,” Nanovic said. “We have some ideas, but we’re not going to discuss them.”

Also at Tuesday’s meeting, Cressley criticized the board for the manner in which last month’s meeting was handled.

“Last month’s meeting was pitiful,” Cressley said. “What you did last month was unacceptable.”

Cressley specifically cited how last month’s meeting agenda was amended on several occasions for which board action followed.

However, board Chairman Jason Frey said, “We’ve done that before.”

Cressley also told the board he believes it’s time for the township to start looking at new equipment.
