Vendor fair

St. John UCC, 150 Pine St., Tamaqua will host a vendor fair from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. May 3. There will be vendors, food, 50/50 chances and a basket raffle.

Calvary Evangelical

The Easter Sunday service at Calvary Evangelical Church in Lewistown Valley will be held at 10:30 a.m. with Easter music and praise. Pastor Kim Leskowich will deliver a message with the resurrection theme. All are invited to celebrate the risen Savior. Sunday school is at 9:15 a.m.

There will be no Sunday evening service.

The Maundy Thursday service with Holy Communion will be held today at 7:30 p.m. at Zion Church in Lewistown Valley.

The Good Friday service will be held Friday at 1:30 p.m. at Zion UMC in New Ringgold.

There also will be an Easter Sunrise Service on Sunday at 6:15 a.m. rain or shine at the Lewistown Valley Tabernacle.

St. Peter’s West Penn

An Easter dawn service will be held at 6:30 a.m. Sunday at St. Peter’s Church in West Penn, followed by a 7:30 a.m. breakfast. There will also be a 9 a.m. Sunday worship service with the Sacrament of Holy Communion.

The church board meets at 6 p.m. Wednesday, and on April 24, the Cherub Choir rehearses at 6 p.m. and the Senior Choir rehearses at 7 p.m.

Tamaqua Seniors

The Tamaqua Senior Citizens met on April 10 with 29 members present.

President Jean Machamer opened the meeting with the invocation “The Gift of Life” read by a member. The secretary and treasurer’s report were accepted.

The group welcomed back three members. An Easter basket was chanced off and won by a member.

The group elected officers for 2026, with Machamer remaining as president; Eileen Keich as vice president; Ruthann Feane as secretary; and Nancy Godenis as treasurer. The group thanked members for helping with the food.

The meeting closed and bingo and cards were played.

The group meets at 1 p.m. Thursdays at the Coaldale Complex. Anyone 55 and older is invited.

Zion Lewistown

Zion Church in Lewistown Valley will host a Maundy Thursday service today at 7:30 p.m.

Easter sunrise service will be held at 6:15 a.m. at the Lewistown Valley Tabernacle.

Zion Church Lewistown Valley will hold the Easter service on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. Sunday school is at 9:30 a.m.

Street sweeping

Tamaqua began posting streets for street sweeping on Monday.

The permanently posted streets that are cleaned every Thursday and Friday will be cleaned beginning April 24 and 25 at 5 a.m. and include East and West Broad, Berwick, Center, Pine, North and South Railroad streets and portions of Nescopec, Mauch Chunk and Swatara streets.

A copy of the schedule is available on the borough’s Facebook page and website.

Streets will be posted the day before sweeping is scheduled. Drivers are reminded that they must move their vehicles from the posted areas. Vehicles that remain on the posted streets will be ticketed and towed at the owner’s expense.

Property owners and residents are encouraged to clean their sidewalks the day before their street is cleaned. Street sweeping will continue as needed; the schedule is subject to change depending on work schedules and weather conditions.
