Four injured in Schuylkill crash

Four people sustained minor injuries in a two-vehicle crash that occurred at 4:42 p.m. on Saturday along Route 61 in Butler Township, Schuylkill County.

State police at Frackville said Mya N. Hughes, 19, of Frackville, was driving a 2008 Ford Focus southbound and attempting to negotiate a right curve in the road when she lost control of her vehicle. The vehicle began to slide in a counterclockwise direction. Hughes attempted to counter-steer and the Focus began to travel into the northbound lane where it collided with the front passenger side of a 2009 Volkswagen Jetta operated by Katie E. Comer, 31, of Schuylkill Haven.

After impact, the Focus left the road and traveled into a wooded area. The Jetta came to rest in the northbound lane.

Hughes, Comer and her two passengers, a girl, age 14, and a boy, age 8, were all taken by ambulance to Lehigh Valley Hospital East, Pottsville.

The two vehicles sustained major damages and were towed.

Troopers cited Hughes for traveling at an unsafe speed.
