Rt. 940-I-80 White Haven detour in effect

The closure of the Route 940 on-ramp to Interstate 80 in White Haven went into effect this week, sending passenger vehicles through East Side Borough and truck traffic on 15-mile detour to Route 309.

The closure, which is expected to last through July 25, is in support of the I-80 Over Lehigh River Bridge Project in Carbon and Luzerne counties.

During the closure, passenger vehicles will continue on Route 940 to through White Haven using Church and Berwick streets, and through East Side on River and State streets, to Route 534 where they can access I-80 eastbound at Exit 274.

Trucks traveling from the Mountain Top and Wilkes-Barre region will be directed to take Route 309 to Exit 262 to access the I-80 east, and those from the White Haven area will take Route 940 to Route 309 to Exit 262 in Drums.

Signs are also posted along Route 940 in Freeland directing truck traffic onto South Street in the borough and Butler Drive in Drums to access Route 309 to interstate at Exit 262.

Motorists are encouraged to follow the posted signs and allow for extra travel time through the area.
