Rt. 940 ramp to I-80 east closing for bridge project

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and Bridging Pennsylvania Developers I are announcing the closure of the Route 940 on-ramp to Interstate 80 (Exit 273) eastbound in support of the I-80 Over Lehigh River Bridge Project in Carbon and Luzerne counties.

The closure will begin on Monday and is anticipated to last until July 25.

During the closure, passenger vehicles wishing to access I-80 east will be directed to follow the posted detour route of Church Street (Route 940), Berwick Street/River Street/State Street (Route 940) and Route 534 to Exit 274.

Trucks traveling from the Wilkes-Barre region will be directed to take Route 309 to Exit 262, while trucks traveling from White Haven will be directed to take Route 940 and Route 309 to Exit 262.

Motorists are encouraged to follow posted signs and allow for extra time to travel through the area.

The project is part of the ongoing PennDOT Major Bridges P3 Program.
