Alvernia earns military designation
Military Friendly Schools has named Alvernia a 2025-2026 Military Friendly School, awarding the Reading-based university a silver designation for the second year in a row.
The distinction highlights Alvernia’s strong commitment to supporting student veterans, service members and military-affiliated learners through dedicated resources, flexible pathways and financial assistance.
“Alvernia’s continued recognition as a Military Friendly School reflects our commitment to ensuring all military-affiliated students receive the support, respect and opportunities they deserve,” said Alvernia Vice President for Mission, Diversity and Inclusion Darryl C. Mace. “Through personalized guidance, comprehensive resources and a community-centered experience, we are proud to serve those who have served our country.”
More than 1,800 institutions participated in the Military Friendly survey, with 830 earning award-level designations.
Final ratings are determined by combining survey scores with public data related to student retention, graduation, job placement, loan repayment, persistence and loan default rates — both for the general student population and specifically for student veterans.
The 2025-2026 Military Friendly Schools list will be published in the May and October issues of G.I. Jobs magazine and is available online at militaryfriendly.com.
“Military Friendly is committed to transparency and providing consistent data-driven standards in our designation process,” said Military Friendly Vice President Kayla Lopez.
Alvernia offers a range of services and resources to support military-affiliated students, including dedicated admissions and financial aid counseling, academic advising and career services.
The university’s Veterans Center provides a welcoming space for military-affiliated students to connect, share experiences, and access additional support services.
Furthermore, Alvernia’s partnership with local veteran organizations and participation in community service projects exemplifies the university’s Franciscan values of service and community engagement.
In addition to robust support services, Alvernia participates in the Yellow Ribbon Program, enhancing the educational benefits available through the Post-9/11 GI Bill.
The program helps cover tuition and fees, making higher education more accessible and affordable for veterans and their dependents.
