Coroner called to Polk Township fire scene

A 71-year-old man died Tuesday in a fire in Polk Township.

The Monroe County Coroner’s office said the man, whose name has been withheld, was pronounced deceased on scene, at 5:46 p.m .at the home on Long Mountain Road, Polk Township.

The name of the decedent is not being released at this time.

An Autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.

The Pennsylvania State Police fire marshal was on scene all afternoon on Long Mountain Road in Polk Township.

Fire was reported at the two-story home shortly before noon Tuesday.

Fire departments from Monroe and Carbon counties were on scene.

A woman was taken to the hospital from the scene. Her condition is not known at this time.

Fire departments responding in addition to Polk Township included West End Fire Company, Blue Ridge Fire Company, Kunkletown and Pocono Township. From Carbon County, Towamensing and Penn Forest Volunteer Fire Company No. 2 responded.
