Panther Valley board congratulates Banks, Williams

The Panther Valley School Board on Wednesday recognized its three-time state champion in girls wrestling and her teammate, who also represented the school district at states, for their achievements.

Patricia Ebbert, high school principal, called upon Brenda Banks, a junior who brought home her third straight state wrestling title, and Alisa Williams, who won 30-plus matches in her season and represented well in her first year at Hershey.

“These two young ladies represented Panther Valley in the utmost way as they traveled to Hershey two weeks ago,” Ebbert said in presenting them with gifts. “We could not be more proud of them.”

Ebbert told Williams that she took on a tough challenge going to states, and winning her first match, but did not place.

“You represented the Panther Valley in the greatest of ways,” she told her. “We want to thank you, congratulate and acknowledge you.”

Then, Ebbert turned to returning champion Banks, who has a 73-2 overall record in her career, and had pins in under 52 seconds in her last two matches at states.

“We are super proud of you,” she said. “You will be moving on to the national championships in Fargo, North Dakota, again this year.”

Banks is ranked among the top seven wrestlers in the nation, and possibly the top five, her coach Kris Nalesnik said.

Depending on her performance this year, she could go into next season as the nation’s top wrestler, he said.
