Work at Tamaqua’s North and Middle Ward Playground is nearing completion, according to borough Manager Kevin Steigerwalt.
New fences are being added to the playground.
“It’s just about done actually. They just have some gate work to do there,” Steigerwalt said during Tuesday’s borough council meeting. “That’s coming along pretty well.”
Crews also trimmed trees near the railroad tracks by the playground, Steigerwalt said.
“I think it’s shaping up pretty good,” he noted.
Resurfacing of the playground’s handicapped accessible path and an area near the concession stand were among the other improvements.
Funds for the work came from a Community Development Block Grant and the Morgan Foundation.
Also in his report, Steigerwalt noted that borough street sweeper is back in operation.
“We don’t have a schedule just yet — that will be sometime next month,” he said. “For now we’ve just been kind of randomly running it around and picking up all the heavy debris.”
When it’s determined, the schedule will be posted on the borough’s website and Facebook page
Steigerwalt added that he recently forwarded an application for the demolition of 401 Willing St. to Schuylkill County.
“I’m just waiting to hear back from the county on when they are going to proceed with that,” he said.
