Tamaqua man jailed on assault count

A Tamaqua man was jailed on Friday for an incident at the residence of family members in Rush Township.

State police at Frackville said around 4:45 p.m., family members of Anthony L. Keiper, 32, called police to report he was at their residence along Fairview Street in the village of Ginthers, under the influence of drugs. It was also reported that Keiper took a kitchen knife and displayed it in such a manner that put the family members in fear of serious bodily injury.

Keiper was taken into custody on charges of simple assault, harassment and public drunkenness. He was arraigned before on-call District Judge David Rossi, of Tremont, and committed to the county prison in Pottsville after failing to post $30,000 straight cash bail. Troopers noted that Rush Township police were involved in another emergency at the time of the incident. Troopers were assisted by Tamaqua police at the scene.
