Local Roundup: Results from March 14
The Northwestern boys and girls both opened their lacrosse seasons with wins on Friday.
GIRLS LACROSSE
NW-Northampton
Olivia Costa and Cara Thomas both scored four goals to help Northwestern roll to a 16-4 non-league victory over Northampton.
Costa also added three assists in the victory, while Thomas had one.
Sydney Wright and Olivia Fagan each contributed a pair of goals, while Ella Collins finished with a goal and three helpers.
The winners also received goals from both Gracie Scheffler and Lily Allred, and assists from Alex Rodrigue and Amanda Breidinger.
Goalie Ashley Yacynych came up with seven saves.
BOYS LACROSSE
Northampton-NW
Two goals from both Kendall Wikert and Tyler Kaas helped Northwestern edge Northampton, 7-6, in its season opener.
The Tigers also received a goal and an assist from Lucas Heeps, while Michael Lagowy and Logan Uricchio also tallied.
Northwestern’s Carter Zentz added an assist, and goalie Dane Kauker made five saves.
SOFTBALL
Pleasant Vy-So. Lehigh
Pleasant Valley banged out 18 hits and overcame a six-run deficit, but ended up dropping a 10-9 non-league decision to Southern Lehigh.
Jovie Valenzuela, Kailyn Getz, Maddie Abbatiello and Rylan Knapp each had three hits for the Bears, who trailed 6-0 after three innings.
Knapp knocked in two runs, while Valenzuela scored a pair of runs.
PV, which scored seven times in the fourth to take the lead only to have the Spartans use a two-run sixth inning to pull out the victory, also received two hits and two runs from Brianca Pridham.
Demi Lewis paced Solehi with three hits, one a homer, and three RBIs.
