Jim Thorpe graduate Skyler Searfoss scored eight points and handed out a game-high six assists to help the Holy Family University women’s basketball team record a 67-53 victory over Assumption Friday in the opening round of the NCAA Division 2 East Regionals.
Searfoss, a junior with the Tigers, made two of her three shots from the floor and hit on four of five free throws. She also added five rebounds in her 24 minutes of play.
Holy Family, at 25-6, advances to the next round where it will play Daemen University. The game is scheduled for today at 5 p.m.
While Searfoss and her team remained alive, her former Olympian teammates at Kutztown University suffered a different fate.
The Golden Bears dropped an 87-75 decision to Seton Hill in the first round of the NCAA Division 2 Atlantic Regionals on Friday.
Former Thorpe standouts Leila Hurley and Olivia Smelas, both juniors, had solid numbers in defeat but saw their season end with a 22-12 record.
Smelas collected nine points and eight rebounds, while Hurley finished with nine points and two assists.
