State police at Lehighton - crashes
State police at the Lehighton barracks reported the following crashes:
• Timothy W. Underwood, 48, of Almetto, Florida, is facing charges of driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance and unlawful possession of a firearm without a license after a one-vehicle crash at 8:36 p.m. March 8 on West Lizard Creek Road (Route 895) in East Penn Township.
Police said he was driving a 2022 Ford F-250 eastbound when the truck went onto the right shoulder of the road and hit and snapped a utility pole. The truck then traveled down a 30-foot embankment before coming to rest. It was towed from the scene.
Police said Underwood was uninjured in the incident.
• No one was injured in a two-vehicle crash at 2:53 p.m. Feb. 28 on Route 115 in Ross Township.
Police said the crash occurred when Selena Pagan, 46, of Pen Argyl, driving a 2009 Ford Explorer Sport Trac north, struck the back of a 2023 Nissan Rogue operated by Kimberly A. McCarty, 27, of Saylorsburg. Police were assisted at the scene by a local towing service.
Pagan was cited after the crash, according to police.
• Aliou M. Thiam, 33, and Rouguiatou Diallo, 31, both of Sharon Hill, had suspected minor injuries after a two-vehicle crash at 3:30 p.m. Feb. 22 at the intersection of Little Gap and Lower Smith Gap roads in Lower Towamensing Township.
Police said they were transported by personnel from the Palmerton Community Association to the St. Luke’s Hospital, Carbon Campus, Franklin Township.
The crash occurred, police said, when Thiam, driving a 2017 Toyota RAV4, with Diallo as his passenger, stopped at the stop sign on Lower Smith Gap Road and then entered the intersection, striking a 2022 GMC Sierra driven by Gary J. Hoffman, 71, of Kunkletown. Police were assisted at the scene by a local towing service.
Thiam was cited after the crash, according to police.
Hoffman and a passenger, Olive A. Hoffman, 68, also of Kunkletown, were uninjured.
• No one was hurt in a two-vehicle crash at 11:03 a.m. March 10 at the intersection of Hill and Wintergreen roads in Towamensing Township.
Police said the crash occurred when Stacy J. Frantz, 38, Kunkletown, driving a 2020 Acura east on Hill Road, failed to yield after stopping at a stop sign, striking a 2018 Kia Sportage operated south on Wintergreen Road by Renae C. Watson, 36, of Albrightsville.
Police said the Sportage continued south, rotated clockwise and hit a tree.
The Sportage was towed from the scene.
According to police, said Frantz was cited for a “stop signs and yield sign” violation, while Watson was cited for driving a vehicle without an official certificate of inspection.
