Fair association hosts fundraising consignment auction
Successful bidders will have the chance to take home everything from chain saws to kayaks during the seventh annual Carbon County Fair Consignment Auction.
The event gets underway at 9 a.m. Saturday from the Mahoning Valley Speedway, 2562 Blakeslee Blvd. Dr. East (Route 443), Lehighton.
Proceeds from the sale benefit the nonprofit Carbon County Lion/Lioness Fair Association.
And those who provide items also receive money when their wares are sold.
“We advertise and put out pamphlets to let people know we are looking for consignment items,” said Leroy “Butch” Wentzel, fair director. “We do not take household goods. This is a farm, yard, garden and tool sale.”
Folks might find antiques, too, he said.
According to a listing for the consignment sale at www.deanarnerauctions.com, items up for bid include kayaks, lawn mowers, string trimmers, shop lights, ladder jacks, tools, ammunition, cast iron items, mechanical banks, pocket knives and hex signs.
“There’s a lot more to come because I have people coming to drop off items,” Wentzel noted.
Those photos will be added to the listing.
“It will keep growing,” he said.
In 2024, items numbered in thousands and attendance was high.
“Last year we outgrew our limit for where we were at,” Wentzel said.
He said that auctioneer Dean R. Arner is donating his services to the auction. The speedway is donating the use of its space.
Refreshments will be available.
“The fair people bring a trailer and serve filling, gravy and all kinds of stuff,” Wentzel said. “There will be a bake sale, too.”
The Carbon County Fair is in its 26th year and will be held Aug. 4-9 at 3285 Little Gap Road, Palmerton.
