State police at Lehighton - crashes
State police at the Lehighton barracks reported the following crashes:
• Hector J. Ortiz Jr., 20, of Weatherly, was cited for failure to drive at a safe speed after a one-vehicle crash at 7:08 p.m. Feb. 27 on Pine Run Road in Towamensing Township. He was uninjured in the incident.
Police said he was driving a 2014 Nissan Sentra eastbound on Jefferson Street when it went through the intersection, slid and hit a guide rail along Pine Run Road.
The car had disabling damage and was towed from the scene.
• No one was injured in a two-vehicle crash at 3:44 p.m. Feb. 27 on Greenwood Drive, Polk Township.
Police said the crash occurred when Francis Ferreras Feliz, 49, of Allentown, driving a 2023 Dodge Ram 2500, proceeded to pass a school bus that was stopped, hitting a stop sign attached to the bus.
Police said Feliz then reversed his vehicle and pulled behind the bus, which was operated by Glen R. Zabriskie, 62, of Effort.
The truck and bus both had minor damage.
There were three passengers on the bus at the time; all were uninjured, according to police.
Feliz was cited for meeting or overtaking a school bus, police said.
• Police said two vehicles had minor damage after a crash at 1:54 p.m. Feb. 26 at the intersection of Troxell and Mahoning Mountain roads in East Penn Township. No one was injured in the incident.
Police did not identify the drivers or give their addresses, but said the crash occurred when a 2013 Ford Edge stopped at a stop sign at the intersection and then crossed the road, striking a 2014 Subaru Crosstrek.
Police said the driver of the Edge was cited after the crash.
• A bus transporting 15 youths was hit by a vehicle at 3:05 p.m. Feb. 24 on Fireline Road, Bowmanstown. Police said no one was injured.
The crash occurred when James F. Giamoni, 68, of Slatington, was driving a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado eastbound. Police said it crossed the double yellow lines and struck a 2018 IC bus driven by Donald B. Duffield III, 60, of Palmerton.
Police said both vehicles had minor damage but the Silverado was towed from the scene. They said Giamoni was transported to the St. Luke’s Hospital, Carbon Campus, Franklin Township, for a blood draw. A citation is pending against him, police said.
• Benjamin Toth, 38, of Kunkletown, had minor injuries after a two-vehicle crash at 9:13 p.m. Feb. 19 on Spruce Hollow Lane, Towamensing Township.
Police said he did not require a medical transport from the scene.
They said the crash occurred when Toth was driving a 2017 Infiniti that he lost control of on a patch of ice. The vehicle traveled off the road and came to rest against a tree.
Police said a 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe operated by Jillian L. Getz, 34, of Palmerton, was southbound at the time and was hit by debris from the tree. She was uninjured.
• Austin S. Shoffstall, 24, of Saylorsburg, was injured in a one-vehicle crash at 10:18 a.m. Feb. 19 on Route 115 in Ross Township.
Police said he was transported by personnel from the Lehigh Valley Health Network EMS corps to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Pocono, East Stroudsburg.
Shoffstall was driving a 2017 Mazda too fast for conditions when he lost control of it, according to police. The car fishtailed and struck a curb on the right side of the road. It was towed from the scene.
Police said Shoffstall was cited after the crash.
• Amanda M. Pysher, 35, of Saylorsburg, had minor injuries after a one-vehicle crash at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 17 on Greenhill Road, Polk Township.
Police said she did not require a medical transport from the scene.
They said she was driving a 2013 Hyundai Elantra southbound when it drifted off the road and hit a post with several mailboxes. The car continued straight, striking another mailbox and landed in a ditch, coming to rest against a tree. It had disabling damage and was towed from the scene.
Police said charges are pending against Pysher.
• No one was injured in a one-vehicle crash at 5:12 p.m. Feb. 16 on Meixsell Valley Road, Ross Township.
Police said Suziue Hwang, 28, of Astoria, New York, was driving a 2024 Mercedes-Benz southbound when it slid off the road and hit a utility pole. It had disabling damage and was towed from the scene.
Hwang was cited after the crash, police said.
• Police investigated a three-vehicle crash at 5:44 p.m. Feb. 15 on Scenic Drive in Polk Township.
They did not identify the drivers or give their addresses, but said a 2023 Honda Civic “rear-ended” a 2023 Lincoln Continental, which struck the guide rail. Police said a 2013 Hyundai Elantra then struck the back of the Honda.
Police said no one was injured in the incident.
All three drivers were cited after the crash, police said.
• Daniel S. Anderson, 18, of Effort, was cited after a one-vehicle crash at 7:49 p.m. Feb. 13 on Hahn’s Dairy Road, Lower Towamensing Township. He was uninjured in the incident.
Police said he was driving a 2018 Ford Focus too fast for conditions when he attempted to pass another vehicle. The Focus went out of control and hit a guide rail, police said. It was towed from the scene.
• Danika A. Heyer, 23, of Allentown, was cited after a one-vehicle crash at 9:15 p.m. Feb. 12 on Lehigh Drive in East Penn Township. She was uninjured in the incident.
Police said she was driving a 2021 Hyundai Kona on the on-ramp to Route 248 when it exited the roadway and hit a cement barrier on the left side of the road. The car had disabling damage and was towed from the scene.
• Theron D. Jones, 29, of Palmerton, was cited after a one-vehicle crash at 2:51 p.m. Feb. 12 on Dairy Road, Lower Towamensing Township. He was uninjured in the incident.
Police said he was driving a 2011 Dodge Nitro eastbound when it left the road and hit an embankment before crossing over the double yellow lines and striking a second embankment and then overturning. The vehicle was towed from the scene.
