Several people were injured including a pedestrian struck in a multi-vehicle crash Monday morning along Interstate 81, just south of the Mahanoy City exit.

The incident, involving five vehicles, occurred just after 6 a.m. in the southbound lanes at the 131 mile marker. Multiple medic units responded including one from as far as Hazleton. Fire companies from Ryan township, Delano and Mahanoy City responded. Area fire police maintained traffic control at the scene, shutting down the southbound lanes. State police at Frackville are investigating the incident.
