L. Towamensing reaches fields agreement
Lower Towamensing Township has reached an agreement with the Bowmanstown Palmerton Baseball Softball Association for use of the Stoney Ridge Recreation Center.
On a unanimous measure, supervisors on Tuesday approved the agreement with the organization.
The building is now used as a recreation center at Stoney Ridge. Its 27 acres were sold to the township in 2001 by the Knights of Columbus.
The terms of the agreement, effective May 1 through Dec. 31, are:
• The association agrees to submit a facility use request form to the township by May 1, along with a schedule of games and practices listing specific dates, times, and areas of the park that will be used. The association must update the board of supervisors at least once a month. The association may only use the park Monday through Friday. • The association and township agree that the premises will be used for softball, T-ball, and baseball practices and games. • The association may use the large baseball field and the T-ball field. • The association must maintain public liability insurance, which will remain in effect from Jan. 1 through Dec. 25. Minimum coverage requirements are as follows: bodily injury, $500,000 per person and $500,000 per occurrence; property damage, $1 million. • The association must provide the township with a certificate or certificates of insurance to demonstrate compliance. Each certificate must name the township as an additional insured or certificate holder. • The association is responsible for all necessary maintenance and care of the facilities and any associated equipment to ensure safe use of the park. This includes lining the field, cutting grass not maintained by the township but desired by the association, and placing all bases and home plate. • The association agrees to work with the township to prevent damage to the park and equipment buildings. The association must also comply with all state and government safety regulations related to park operations. • The association is responsible for cleaning the grounds it uses, including picking up litter on the fields, parking areas, and port-a-johns. All garbage must be properly disposed of immediately following use. • The association may not make changes or modifications to the park. Any requested modifications or maintenance must be submitted to the township secretary. • The Stoney Ridge Park is open to the public and includes a basketball court and recreation hall.
• The township will provide two port-a-johns for use by the general public which would include users of the park on the terms of this agreement or otherwise. Should the association require an additional port-a-john, the association agrees to pay the township for the cost of that port-a-john.
