A very impressive duel dedication ceremony was held at St. Mark’s-St. John’s Episcopal Church, Jim Thorpe, following the Sunday morning service.
The Rev. Robert K. Gildersleeve, rector of the parish, conducted the rites for both the recently restored elevator and a Memorial Prayer Garden which will be used to retain the cremated ashes of departed members of the parish.
The elevator was installed in 1912 through the generosity of its benefactor, the late Mary Packer Cummings, who ironically became the first passenger in it for her own funeral on All Saints Day, Nov. 1, 1912.
The garden is located in the church yard, just below the stained glass window of the high altar of the church.
