Turnpike crashes

State police at the Pocono barracks reported the following crashes that occurred on the Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike:

• Two people were injured after a two-vehicle crash at 8:35 a.m. Feb. 24 at mile marker 87.4 in Penn Forest Township.

Police said Sally A. Marrazzo, 62, of Archbald, had the minor injuries, while a passenger, Joseph M. Marrazzo, 66, also of Archbald, had possible injuries. Police said they did not require medical transports from the scene.

They said the crash occurred when Ivan Skydanchuk, 31, of Webster, New York, driving a 2025 Volvo southbound, merged into the left lane and hit a 2016 Lexus driven by Sally Marrazzo.

• Jose E. Garcia, 29, and Carlos Jiminez, 46, both of Norristown, were injured in a one-vehicle crash at 4:50 p.m. Feb. 20 in the Lehigh Tunnel in Washington Township.

Police said the severity of their injuries is unknown. They were transported by personnel from the Lehighton Ambulance Association to the St. Luke’s Hospital, Carbon Campus, Franklin Township.

Police said Garcia was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt that he lost control of on the wet roadway, causing it to hit the wall in the tunnel.

• Thomas A. Gilles, 59, of Perkasie, was injured in a one-vehicle crash at 3:10 p.m. Feb. 20 in the Lehigh Tunnel, East Penn Township.

Police said he was transported by personnel from the Palmerton Community Ambulance Association to the St. Luke’s Hospital, Carbon Campus, Franklin Township. They said the severity of his injuries is unknown.

Police said he was operating a 2002 Ford Ranger in the tunnel when it struck the wall, traveled across both lanes and hit and damaged the wall.

• Amanda L. Parker, 34, of Duryea, was uninjured in a one-vehicle crash at 7:32 a.m. Feb. 19 at mile marker 82.4 in Penn Forest Township.

Police said she was driving a 2013 Nissan Altima southbound and was traveling too fast for conditions when she failed to negotiate a curve and the car hit a concrete barrier, spun counterclockwise and struck the guide rail on the right side of the road. The car had to be towed from the scene.

Parker was cited after the crash, according to police.

• Christopher A. Poplin, 45, of Palmerton, was injured in a two-vehicle crash at 2:18 p.m. Feb. 12 at mile marker 71.4 in East Penn Township.

Police said he was transported by personnel from the Lehighton Ambulance Association to the Lehigh Valley Hospital-Carbon, Mahoning Township.

They said Poplin was driving a 2015 Chevrolet Corvette that crossed the center line, hit a concrete barrier, crossed back over the center line and struck a 2025 International Harvester driven by Carl W. Pahl II, 62, of Helena, Montana. He was uninjured.

Police said the Corvette became wedged under the trailer of the rig and was dragged about 350 feet before coming to a halt and having to be towed from the scene.

Poplin was cited after the crash, according to police.

• No one was injured in a one-vehicle crash at 12:01 a.m. Feb. 10 at mile marker 67.4 in Washington Township.

Police said the crash occurred when Erin K. Kingsley, 48, of White Haven, driving a 2023 Dodge Durango, approached a turnpike gate that as inoperable. They said she put the vehicle into reverse, and the driver’s side mirror hit the key box at the site, causing minor damage.

• Sehghiela C. Clements, 34, of Philadelphia, was injured after a one-vehicle crash at 4:36 p.m. Feb. 19 at mile marker 67.1 in Washington Township.

Police said she was transported by personnel from the Northern Valley Ambulance to the Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest, Salisbury Township.

They said she was driving a 221 Nissan Sentra northbound when she lost control of it while negotiating a curve. The car hit the center concrete barrier with a glancing blow, traveled across both lanes and then hit a rock wall and embankment.

Clements was cited after the crash, according to police.

• Paul S. Warren, 72, of Philadelphia, was cited after a one-vehicle crash at 4:43 p.m. Feb. 3 at mile marker 71.6 in East Penn Township. He was uninjured in the incident.

Police said he was driving a 2022 Ford F-750 southbound when he made an illegal U-turn, partially entering the northbound lane, where the truck struck the left side attenuator.
