Lehighton fills parks vacancies
Lehighton is back to having a full parks and recreation board.
The borough’s Parks & Recreation Board met last week and seven members were appointed to fill vacancies.
Those appointed to serve two-year terms are as follows: Becky Worthy, chairperson; Tina Henninger, co-chair; Lisa Kishbaugh, secretary; and voting members Dr. Jordyn Miller, Nicholas Catania, Byron Schnell and Steve Mellifont.
Worthy said the voting board is filled, but added they are still accepting applications for committee members to help assist with various event planning.
She explained the mission of the Parks & Rec Board.
“Improving our parks and partnering with local recreation organizations to bring our community together to enjoy our local resources, and host events while fundraising to support these community events,” Worthy said.
Worthy explained her vision for the group moving forward.
“As chair of Parks & Recreation, I hope to work toward increasing community events and fundraising to be able to bring our community more opportunities to enjoy our local parks as well as recreation,” she said. “I’m looking forward to bringing new ideas and events to our community, as well as continuing with the previous year’s events that our community has grown to love and enjoy.”
Worthy noted that Parks & Recreation has begun working with other nonprofits locally, such as the Pool Pals to be able to bring new opportunities for the betterment of the community.
She said the next meeting of the Parks & Recreation Board is 6:30 p.m. March 10 at borough hall in council chambers.
Worthy said Parks & Rec will meet at 6:30 p.m. on the third Monday of the month at borough hall in council chambers.
The Parks & Recreation Board is an advisory committee to borough council whose main goal is to provide advice and recommendations on the maintenance, beauty, and character of borough public spaces.
The board assists in providing access to natural spaces, fundraisers for park equipment and facilities, volunteers with other community groups, sponsors recreational events, and submits annual reports to borough council.
