Are you sharing your faith?

I would like to share one of the many opportunities that God has given me to share my faith.

One afternoon I was looking for something to do so I stopped at Cabela’s. While walking through the parking lot, I came upon a man who was leaning on his car. He appeared to be upset so I walked over and asked him if he was OK.

He said, “Not really, I don’t think that I can make it through the parking lot to the store.”

If you have ever been there, it is a bit of a jaunt. He had problems with his legs.

He said, “When I have a shopping cart I will be able to navigate a little better.” I told him that was no problem and I will get my car and drive you to the front door and get you a cart. I introduced myself and he did the same. His name was John. I helped him get into my old car, which has limited leg room (John was fairly tall). I had to help him get his legs in under the dash.

I asked him where he was from and he said, “Philadelphia.”

I said, “So let me guess, you took a wrong turn?”

He laughed and said that he was on his way to visit his son.

Now the wheels are turning and I thought here is a perfect opportunity to share my faith. I had him where I wanted him.

The poor guy didn’t have a chance. No way was he getting out of my car without my help.

Kind of like a captive audience.

I shared the Gospel with him and talked about the saving grace through our Lord Jesus. He had several questions for me which I was able to answer thanks to the Holy Spirit and my countless hours of study. We shared our phone numbers and I gave him some of the information I had written and we parted ways.

About a year later, I received a phone call from John. He said, “Rick, I can’t stop thinking about that day at Cabela’s and the kindness that you showed to me, a complete stranger.”

He said that he wanted me to know what I had done for him. He said, “You got my attention and started me thinking. A Baptist Church is right around the corner from my house and that’s where I will be going.”

I said to him, “Good choice, John.”

You will hear the Gospel and the teachings of Jesus Christ loud and clear in a Baptist Church.

My prayer is always that the light and glory of our Lord and Savior would shine forth and reach the lost.
