Weissport discusses snow removal issues
Weissport Borough Council discussed snow removal at the monthly February meeting at borough hall.
Councilman Bill Hartzell voiced concern over how some residents are not observing the odd/even parking regulation when it comes to snow and snow removal.
“If the spots are open, I will plow them,” Hartzell said. “But, after five or six hours and I go home, then people start calling (and saying), ‘We’ve moved our vehicle.’ They should have been moved before.”
Residents are reminded that if they want parking spaces plowed, they need to have their vehicles off that side of the street per the borough regulation.
Council also noted that this year, three times vehicles lost control driving down Franklin Street and making the left onto Lime Street and hit the fence by the borough garage, damaging the fencing.
Council will look further into the repair of the drainage ditch at that intersection.
In other business, engineer Mike Muffley said there is no time frame yet on when the Army Corps of Engineers will start work on the levee.
Also, the road projects for the borough are on hold pending the Lehighton Water Authority doing work on some of the water mains in town.
“I’ve been in contact with the Lehighton Water Authority,” Muffley said. “They are going to let me know when they get that work done. Then we can get our project out for bids.
Council also voted to temporarily reduce the required number of members of the Weissport Borough Sewer Authority from five to three. It was not determined when the requirement would be returned to five members.
Councilman Bill Hartzell had a list of tools that the borough needs and will eventually need to purchase for working on borough vehicles and borough projects.
Hartzell will get prices of the tools needed to present to council at the next meeting.
