William A. Strauss, a senior at Lansford High School, was named the winner of the annual Carbon County Boys’ Oratorical Contest held in the Nesquehoning Elementary School.
The son of Mr. and Mrs. John Strauss was presented a trophy by Kenneth Forrest, Summit Hill High School principal, after his oration, “The Golden Pitcher,” was judged tops by attorneys George Richards, Lansford, Frank Llewellyn, Summit Hill, and Thomas Durnin, Jim Thorpe.
Other participants in the contest and the high schools they represented were John Barno, Jim Thorpe; Robert Balliet, Lehighton; Joseph Ligenza, Nesquehoning; Thomas Bynon Jr., Summit Hill; and Edward Young, Weatherly.
