The Tamaqua Junior Raiders 4th Grade Basketball team — comprised of six fourth graders and one third grader — captured the Giardville Basketball Association 3rd & 4th Grade tournament championship with a 4-0 record. Tamaqua first defeated Giardville #1 and then topped Minersville. In the winner’s bracket final, the Raiders downed Giardsville #2. In the title game, Tamaqua had a rematch with Giardville #2 and posted a 31-25 victory. Grayson Smith led the winners with 10 points in the title game, while Mason Murphy added nine points on three three-pointers and was named the tournament’s MVP.
