Edward J. Conarty Jr., 92, of Lehighton, who died Thursday at The Phoebe Allentown Health Center, Allentown, was remembered for his loyalty and devotion to the community.

He was a longtime, retired chief of the Lehighton Fire Department, a founding member and former president of the Lehigh Fire Co. No. 1 Ambulance Association, as well as his numerous civic services.

The late chief previously served as treasurer of the 4-County Fireman’s Association, and held life memberships with Lehigh Fire Company No. 1, the Keystone Fire Chiefs Association, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge No. 1284, Lehighton, and the Lehighton American Legion Shoemaker-Haydt Post 314.

He served with the 9201st Technical Support Group of the U.S. Army during World War II, having attained the rank of sergeant.
