L. Towamensing zoner questions engineer’s ‘scrutiny’
Lower Towamensing Township’s engineering firm has been called into question by a seasoned member of the township’s zoning hearing board.
James Ord described to township supervisors on Tuesday what he believes to be difficulty with the level of scrutiny by Hanover Engineering.
Ord, who is currently chairman of the township’s zoning hearing board, asked supervisors “what’s going on with Hanover Engineering?”
A member of the township’s zoning hearing board for the past 40 years, Ord said, “It just seems like we’re having nit-picky issues.”
Ord cited the storage facilities that were approved several years ago as an example.
“We didn’t seem to have these problems for years and years,” he said. “This didn’t happen before.”
Ord wondered about reaching out to the engineer.
“It’s going to be impossible for us to please (the engineer),” he said.
However, township solicitor Jim Nanovic told Ord that wasn’t his job.
Regardless, Ord said things used to be easier.
But Supervisor Jay Mullikin said he believes that’s because it was a lack of the township’s prior engineering firm, rather than Hanover Engineering.
Mullikin said that in the past, it may have been that the plans weren’t being reviewed as thoroughly as now.
Ord told supervisors that he believes they should listen to what the people of the township want.
“We’re a little quiet township on this side of the mountain,” he said.
Resident Steve Meining took the opposite approach and praised Hanover.
“I kind of enjoy having an engineer that does a thorough review,” Meining said. “Personally, I think Jill (from Hanover) is doing an extraordinary job.”
Supervisor Michael Takerer agreed.
“I do appreciate the thoroughness of Jill (from Hanover),” Takerer said.
