Special Olympics hosts polar plunge fundraiser Saturday
Special Olympics Pennsylvania announces the return of its 12th annual Lehigh Valley Polar Plunge, set to take place on Saturday at Scott Park, located at 130 Larry Holmes Drive in Easton.
Registration kicks off at 10 a.m., followed by opening ceremonies at 11:30 a.m., with the plunge starting at noon sharp.
The Polar Plunge is more than just a fun and frosty event — it’s a vital fundraiser supporting local Special Olympics Pennsylvania athletes.
Proceeds help provide year-round sports training, competitions, and life-changing opportunities for athletes.
This year, it’s especially important as 17-year-old Alpine Skier Alysa Jones, a Greater Lehigh Valley Pocono Region athlete, will represent Team USA at the Special Olympics World Games in Turin, Italy in March 2025.
“I feel so lucky to have been chosen to represent the USA in World Games,” said Jones. “Special Olympics has helped me become a better competitor, a better friend, and a better person.”
Participants can dive in solo or create a Plunge Team for the ultimate icy adventure. Before the main event, attendees can enjoy Plunge Town, a lively hub of fun featuring a costume contest, games, music by DJ Joe from Joe Franzo Entertainment and participate in a group “Good Luck” send off for Jones. Plungers and spectators alike also can indulge in free food and drinks provided by Wawa and Jersey Mike’s. To add a festive twist, there will be a special “Sweetheart Splash” in honor of Valentine’s Day.
The festivities don’t stop there. To kick off the 2025 Polar Plunge weekend, Special Olympics Pennsylvania’s Greater Lehigh Valley Pocono Region will host a “Super Plunge” on Friday at the Grand Eastonian.
This daring 24-hour event challenges participants to brave the icy waters every hour, on the hour, for an entire day. Each plunge will feature a unique theme and delicious treats from sponsored food vendors to keep participants energized and warm.
