Lehighton Borough Council

Lehighton Borough Council took the following action last week:

• Hired Jeff Repsher as the Light and Power Department vice superintendent at the rate of $85,000, effective Feb. 6.

• Hired Karen Shaffer as police department administrative assistant at the rate of $49,000, with her first day on Feb. 24.

• Approved payment application No. 2 to Advanced Pipe Technologies in the amount of $411,553 for Lehighton inflow and infiltration (I & I) abatement project.

• Agreed to extend Advanced Pipe Technologies — I & I rehabilitation contract to March 31.

• Authorized borough solicitor Jim Nanovic to draft a zoning ordinance amendment.

• Tabled discussion on 2025-2029 PathStone Annex rental contract.

• Approved an increase in tax collector compensation to 3.25% commission, as well as $20 tax certificate fees, and $10 duplicate bill fees, and permitted the tax collector to pass any incurred fees onto the taxpayer. These changes will go into effect in 2026 following the election of a new tax collector.

• Tabled discussion on snow emergency routes.

• Approved use of the Trailhead pavilion by St. Luke’s Hospice for the annual bike ride from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on May 31, with a rain date of June 1.

• Approved the annual commencement motorcade for Lehighton Area High School seniors at 6 p.m. on June 2.
