A Jim Thorpe man faces multiple charges after crashing his vehicle and fleeing the wreck after troopers attempted to stop him in Mahoning Township Monday morning.
Logan Loveless, 25, of Fields Drive, was charged with fleeing or attempting to elude officer, evading arrest, three counts of driving under the influence of alcohol/controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, driving while suspend and related charges.
According to court papers, state police attempted to stop Loveless on Mauch Chunk Street in the area of Packerton Hollow Road around 11:30 a.m. after he passed two vehicles.
Loveless’ vehicle turned onto Beaver Street and was found crashed on Beaver Run Drive, and Loveless fled the vehicle, running through a yard and into the woods, court papers said.
A passenger remained in the vehicle, who told troopers that she told Loveless to stop multiple times.
Loveless was then seen walking back through the yard with his hands up, and he was detained, court papers said.
Loveless apologized and told troopers there was a “meth pipe” and “weed” in the vehicle, arrest papers said, and told them he was likely DUI.
Troopers found a clear glass smoking device with suspected methamphetamine and a clear bag with suspected marijuana, court papers said.
Loveless then told troopers he had hidden a bag of methamphetamine in his underwear. Troopers recovered the drugs.
District Judge Joseph Homanko arraigned Loveless on the charges, and he was committed to the Carbon County Correctional Facility in Nesquehoning in lieu of $25,000 bail.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled before District Judge Beth Dodson Feb. 26.
