Eight area teams qualify for league playoffs
Eight Times News area teams have qualified for their respective league basketball playoffs, which begin on Friday and Saturday.
Northwestern is the only local school to have both its teams in the league playoffs. The Tiger girls are the top seed in the Colonial League postseason, while the boys are seeded second.
The Colonial League moved its quarterfinal round from Saturday to Friday due to possible bad weather. Northwestern will host a doubleheader with the girls playing Bangor at 5:30 p.m., and the boys following with a matchup with Wilson at 7:30 p.m.
Other area teams involved in the Colonial playoffs include the Lehighton boys, and the Palmerton and Northern Lehigh girls.
The Indians, who are in their first year in the league after moving from the Schuylkill League, are the fifth seed and travel to Bangor for a 7 p.m. contest on Friday.
The Blue Bombers have earned the third seed in the girls playoffs, and will be home against Catasauqua with a start time of 5:30 p.m. The Bulldogs, meanwhile, are the No. 5 seed and will be at Pen Argyl, with tip-off scheduled for 6 p.m.
All quarterfinal winners advance to the semifinals, which will be held Tuesday (girls) and Wednesday (boys) at a neutral site.
Meanwhile, the Schuylkill League schedule has also been released, and three area clubs will be participating.
The Marian girls, who earned the Division 2 title, receives a bye to the semifinals.
Competing on Saturday at Martz Hall in the quarterfinals will be the Tamaqua girls and Weatherly boys. Both the Raiders and Wreckers are the third-place team in their respective divisions.
