State police at Bethlehem

State police at the Bethlehem barracks reported the following incidents:

• Robert Kugler, 38, of Lehighton, and Katelyn Walsh, 40, of Orefield, were arrested after police responded to a theft incident at 4:15 p.m. Dec. 16 at the intersection of Portland and Quarry streets in North Whitehall Township.

Police said a 38-year-old man from Lehighton called them to the parking lots along the Ironton Rail Trail for a report of a theft of vehicle keys. Walsh, police said, stole the keys from the ignition of the man’s vehicle and fled.

Police said it was discovered Kugler drove his vehicle without an ignition interlock system as required. It was also learned there is an outstanding warrant for his arrest.

Police said a 2017 Toyota Tacoma and a 2021 Acura were involved in the incident.

• A 37-year-old Walnutport man is facing theft charges after police responded to an incident at a grave site in Allen Township.

A 68-year-old Whitehall man told police the man approached the grave site off Cherryville Road between 9-10 a.m. Jan. 10 and stole sentimental items, including a small solar Christmas tree, a cement “Flying IronPigs” and Christmas ornaments.

• Police are investigating a bad checks incident they were called to at 10:23 a.m. Jan. 3 at 2375 Levans Road, North Whitehall Township.

Someone took a check from Northern Valley EMS, altered it and then sent checks to different individuals across the country. Police said several unsuccessful attempts to cash the checks were made.

• Camryn Torres, 20, of Slatedale, is facing charges of driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance after police made a traffic stop at 9:02 p.m. Dec. 25.

She was stopped in a 2019 Chevrolet for Motor Vehicle Code violations in the 300 block of Chestnut Street, Slatington.

• Police are investigating a report of the dissemination of intimate images they received at 2:05 p.m. Sept. 30 at a property on Sand Spring Road, North Whitehall Township.

They said it is alleged a female juvenile shared images and videos or an unknown juvenile male via social media.

• Police said they received a child welfare report from the Lehigh County Office of Children and Youth Services that they are investigating.

The report detailed an alleged indecent assault at 2:37 p.m. Sept. 26 on Mauch Chunk Road in North Whitehall Township.

• Police are investigating a theft by disposition of funds report they received from a 79-year-old woman from Leah Drive, Washington Township, Slatington.

She told police between Sept. 19 and Dec. 4 of last year a check she mailed in the amount of $30.40 was altered to $5,300.

• Police said a 37-year-old man from Slatington is charged with recklessly starting a fire on a private parcel off Center Street, Washington Township, between 10 a.m. and 8:05 p.m. Dec. 11.

The victim is a 25-year-old woman from Slatington.

Police said the man started the fire on a 49-acre parcel that was saved by the efforts of volunteers from the Slatington, Slatedale, Walnutport and Emerald fire companies, along with state police and the Northern Valley EMS.

• A 75-year-old Schnecksville woman was targeted in a theft by deception incident police were called to at 4:34 p.m. Nov. 8 at a property on Levans Road, North Whitehall Township.

She told police she was “scammed” out of $2,000 when she sent money through a Bitcoin ATM.
