Driver pleads to misdemeanors in death of girl, 12

EASTON (AP) — An eastern Pennsylvania driver charged in the death of a 12-year-old girl has pleaded guilty to misdemeanor involuntary manslaughter and reckless endangerment in a plea deal that drew protests from the victim’s family.

Vehicular homicide and other charges were dropped against 23-year-old Dylan Groff in the September 2017 death of Emma Raymondo, who was struck by a car while walking home after getting ice cream with her younger siblings.

Emma’s mother, Kayleen Raymondo, said she is appalled that Groff may serve only a few months in jail.

Groff declined comment Monday in Northampton County Court. Defense attorney Phil Lauer called the case “a very complicated set of circumstances” and “not as simple as it first appeared.” He noted that a texting while driving charge was dismissed, but declined to elaborate.
