JANUARY 30, 1986

A 91-year-old Kutztown native, John B. Schwoyer, who died last April, left his alma mater, Lehigh University in Bethlehem, an estimated $3.5-million.

A bachelor, he graduated from Lehigh in 1917 and worked as a clerk for the U.S. Patent Office in Washington, D.C.

He began contributing to Lehigh’s annual fund drive in 1972 and until his death donated more than $542,000 to it.

As for the new money he willed, Schwoyer designated $750,000 to build the business collection in Lehigh’s E.W. Fairchild-Martindale Library and Computer Center, with a floor in the library to be named in memory of parents, Anna and Peter Schwoyer.

The remaining funds will be used to establish the John B. Schwoyer Endowment Fund.
