State police at Lehighton - crashes
State police at the Lehighton barracks reported the following crashes:
• A 68-year-old Kunkletown woman is facing charges of driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance after a one-vehicle crash at 1:57 p.m. Jan. 27 at the intersection of Ocean Drive and Silver Spring Boulevard in Eldred Township.
Police said she was driving a 2002 Ford Explorer north on the Kunkletown Road when she lost control of it and it traveled off the right side of the road and stuck a utility pole.
• Two people were injured in a two-vehicle crash at 6:35 p.m. Jan. 21 on Route 209 (Mauch Chunk Street) in Mahoning Township.
Police said Brandon A. Morales, 21, the driver of one of the vehicles, and his passenger, Aida L. Pope Cruz, 19, both of Jim Thorpe, had suspected minor injuries and were transported by personnel from the Lehighton Ambulance Association to St. Luke’s Hospital, Carbon Campus, Franklin Township.
Police said the crash occurred when Morales, driving a 2005 Dodge Ram truck southbound, passed a 2015 Volkswagen Golf operated by Kaleena K. Craig, 21, of Lehighton, and sideswiped it as he attempted to reenter the southbound lane. The Ram went out of control, fishtailed as it went off the road and struck a utility pole and tree.
The truck was towed from the scene.
Morales was cited after the crash, police said.
• No one was injured in a one-vehicle crash at 4:39 p.m. Jan. 19 on Blue Mountain Drive in Lower Towamensing Township.
Police said the crash occurred as a 2024 Audi, whose operator was not identified, was southbound when the driver lost control of it on the snow-covered roadway. The vehicle hit a guide rail and became temporarily disabled before being driven from the scene.
• Sean E. Oncheck, 24, of Kunkletown, had minor injuries after a one-vehicle crash at 6:03 a.m. Jan. 10 in Trachsville Hill Road in Towamensing Township.
Police said he did not require a medical transport by Lehighton Ambulance Association personnel who responded to the incident.
They said Oncheck was driving a 2020 Jeep Compass northbound when it did not stop at a properly-posted stop sign, traveled through the intersection and hit a utility pole.
Oncheck was cited after the crash, police said.
