Seed Sowers tonight
Salem-St. Paul Lutheran Church, Kresgeville, is implementing a new committee called the Seed Sowers Committee. The intent is to create collaboration on new fundraising initiatives, and continue serving the community to find new ways to support our church.

PVEN featured
The Monroe County Seniors’ Express Times featured the Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network in its January issue as written by Frannie Kresge, RSVP correspondent.
She reported that “PVEN was incorporated in 1989, but its roots trace back even further to dedicated churches that collected and distributed clothing to those in need.”
Each month a summary of the good works of the PVEN, supported by “16 multi-denominational churches” for the past month is shared with Times News readers via this column, including current needs.
Chestnuthill seniors
The Chestnuthill Senior Center is open Fridays and Wednesdays from 9 a.m.-2 p.m.
The menu for Friday is eggplant Parmesan or spinach salad. Those attending are reminded to place their order one day ahead by 10 a.m.
Library’s special day
The Western Pocono Community Library has announced that Saturday is National Take Your child to the Library Day. Invited are children ages 8 and under, but people should RSVP on the WPCL website as space is limited.

The next meeting of Polk Township’s Parks & Recreation Committee is 6 p.m. Thursday at the municipal building in Kresgeville.
Sale ending
The Youth Missions team at Effort UMC is taking orders for strombolis, including broccoli and cheese, pepperoni and cheese, and cheesesteak. Orders and payment must be placed by Friday. The sale is a benefit for its Missions trip to Middletown, Ohio.

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church will celebrate its youth volunteers between 6-8 p.m. on Friday.
Prayer shawl meeting
The Prayer Shawl Ministry at Effort UMC will meet on Tuesday from 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m.

The congregational family of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Effort, is reminded that SCRIP orders are due by Sunday.
Sunday shoot
The Kunkletown Rod & Gun Club block shoot and meat raffle is Sunday, starting at 11 a.m.
It will be held at 122 Gun Club Lane, Saylorsburg.

Radon testing
Did you know that January is National Radon Action Month?
State Rep. Jack Rader reminds residents that January is National Radon Action Month and that winter is a good time to test for radon because doors and windows are generally closed, providing more accurate results. Simple radon test kits are inexpensive and available at home improvement and hardware stores.
WPWC meeting
The Western Pocono Women’s Club has announced that if the Kresgeville Eatery (aka Cherry’s) meets the target date of opening the end of the month, the club will go there for lunch at noon Feb. 6.
Eagles watch trip
Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center will hold an eagle watch field trip Feb. 7. It will be a field trip to the upper Delaware River in search of the bald eagle.
An environmental educator will lead the field trip. Participants are to meet at the EE Center at 8:30 a.m. and will return at 5 p.m.
Participants should pack a lunch and binoculars and dress for the weather. Stops will be made for coffee and snacks.
Preregistration and payment are required one week in advance. Seating is limited. Refunds will be given only if notification is made at least one week in advance.

Freezin’ fundraiser
A fundraiser for Special Olympics of Pennsylvania, Freezin’ for a Reason, is being held at Camelback from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Feb. 8, with entertainment lasting to 5 p.m. A live band will then perform inside the Thirsty Camel.

Soup sale set
Effort UMC is holding its monthly soup sale through Feb. 19. The soups available include seven-bean soup and chicken with rice.
Sale will continue through Feb. 19. The pickup date is Feb 23.
Cold weather help
The Monroe County Weatherization Program is available for folks who live in a single residential home if one’s income limit is $30,120 (as of January 2024); for each additional household member add $10,760.
The free government-funded weatherization services are available to both owner-occupants and renters.
