Pleasant Valley announces HOF inductees

Pleasant Valley will hold its Hall of Fame induction ceremony on Friday, Jan. 24, at halftime of its boys basketball game against Pocono Mountain East. The ceremony is expected to take place at approximately 7:30 p.m.

Inductees for this year’s class include Aaron Fuhrman, Brad Konwalik, Patrick Kregeloh, Jake Shawn Sarwar and Stephanie E. Wurst (posthumously).

Bios for each inductee are below.

Aaron Fuhrman

Aaron is a 2006 graduate of Pleasant Valley School District. As a student at PV, he was a four year member of the varsity boys’ baseball team. He also earned four varsity letters for baseball. He has been the only athlete in PV history to be drafted out of high school and signed with the Detroit Tigers in 2006. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Business from the Liberty University in 2009, and in 2011 a Master’s Degree in Education from East Stroudsburg University. In the community, he continued his passion for baseball with helping out with camps and mentoring and assisting with the community leagues. He also was an assistant coach for the Pleasant Valley for several years giving back to the baseball program. Currently he resides in Bethlehem, where he is a Financial Advisor/Partner at Edward Jones Investments.

Honors Received

Aaron was awarded a full athletic scholarship to the University of Pittsburgh, which he turned down to pursue a professional contract with the Detroit Tigers. He was drafted in the 23rd round of the 2006 MLB Draft by the Tigers in his senior year at Pleasant Valley. During his time at Pleasant Valley, he led the baseball team to multiple Mountain Valley Championships. He was named the Pocono Record Player of the Year.

Aaron resides in Bethlehem with his wife Cindy for eight years. They were blessed four children, Aaron, Emersyn, Avery, and the late Brooks.

Brad Konawalik

Brad is a 1997 graduate of Pleasant Valley School District. As a student at PV, he was a three year member of the varsity soccer team, a three year member of the boys’ varsity baseball team, and a three year member of the boys’ basketball team. He also earned three varsity letters for both soccer and baseball. He was also a member of the National Honor Society and the Art Honor Society. After graduating, he attended East Stroudsburg University. He earned a Bachelor of Arts and Science from East Stroudsburg in 2001. Currently, he resides in Concord, North Carolina, where he is a managing partner, financial advisor – advisor partner. He has served on the advisory board for the University City YMCA.

Honors Received

During Brad’s time in high school, he excelled as a student athlete. While at PV he was part of the boys’ soccer team and won the Mountain Valley Conference Championship in 1995 and 1996. In addition, Brad was named to the 1st Team All-Mountain Valley Soccer team. He played in four District 11 soccer playoff appearances reaching the finals in 1995 and Semifinals in 1996. In 1997, he was named to the Second Team All-Mountain Valley Conference Baseball Team and was the Morning Call “Player to Watch” in Baseball for 1997.

Brad resides in Concord, NC with his wife Kelly McCarthy for 19 years. They have two children, a daughter, Hudson and son, Everett.

Patrick Kregeloh

Patrick is a 2010 graduate of Pleasant Valley School District. While at PV, he was a four year member of boys’ baseball team and boys’ basketball team. He earned four varsity letters for baseball and two for basketball. After graduating from Pleasant Valley, Patrick attended Shippensburg University. He earned a Bachelor of Science in 2014, majoring in Exercise Science with a minor in Biology. In 2021, he enrolled in Thiel College and in 2023 earned a Master of Science to become a Physician Assistant. In the community, he participated in many baseball camps and clinics. Currently, he resides in Coplay, and is employed as a PA with St. Luke’s University Health Network.

Honors Received

During his years at Pleasant Valley, Patrick has met some monumental accomplishments. While a student at PV, he was selected all four years to the baseball all-conference team, in his senior year was the MVP, and in 2009 was first team all-state for third base and in 2010 for pitcher. He holds the following school records: Single Season Home runs – 9 (2009), Career Home runs – 21 (2007-2010), Most Runs Scored in a Season (Tied) - 32 (2010), and Season Best ERA – 0.41 (2010). Pat was also the Morning Call Pitcher of the Year in 2010, Times News Player of the Year 2009 and 2010. He was also on the District 11 Baseball Championship team in 2010. He continued his success at Shippensburg, being named All American two times, Academic All American two times, Student Athlete of the Year two times, and All-Conference four times.

Patrick resides in Coplay, with his wife Ashley of six years. They have two sons, Brook and Cole.

Jake Shawn Sarwar

Jake is a 2016 graduate of Pleasant Valley School District. As a student at PV, he was a member of Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), where he was Secretary, Vice President, and President for two years. In his senior year, he was also the Region 21 FBLA President. After graduating from Pleasant Valley, Jake attended Kings College. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in 2020 majoring in Political Science with a minors in Political Economics and Professional Writing. After graduating, he stayed on at the college where he became an Admissions Counselor and Resident Counselor. In 2022, he joined Fox56 News as a Multimedia Journalist. In the community, he is active with NEPA Vets Serving Vets, volunteers with PV FBLA and speaking to the current members about career choices, and PA FBLA Board Member.

Honors Received

Jake has many achievements while he was a member of FBLA at Pleasant Valley High School. He took leadership to help PV FBLA receive state honors in top charity work, community service, and fundraising. He led several food drives to keep the shelves stocked at the West End Food Pantry. His leadership continued after graduation by helping current FBLA members prepare for the National Competition in Atlanta, GA where they took third place for the National Champion Chapter Gold Seal Level. He continued giving back to his community by highlighting many PV achievements as a journalist for Fox56 News. As a journalist, he was awarded in 2024 PAB Award for Excellence in Broadcasting for his work as a journalist.

Jake resides in Wilkes-Barre.

Stephanie E. Wurst

Stephanie is a 1991 graduate of Pleasant Valley School District. As a student, she was a member of the girls’ basketball team and the girls’ softball team. She was a 4 year letter recipient for both girls’ basketball and softball. After graduating Pleasant Valley, she attended Raritan Valley Community College earning an Associate’s Degree in Business. After graduating, she secured a job as a manger in the fuel/service industry where she had overseen the operation of several facilities. She resided in Clinton, New Jersey, from 2004 until her passing in 2023.

Honors Received

During her time at Pleasant Valley, Stephanie was recognized for her accomplishments on the girls’ basketball team. In 1991, she became the first female in school history to score 1,000 points. She hit this milestone on Jan. 16, 1991 against rival Pocono Mountain. She is also still tied for the school record for the most three pointers in a game with six. Whatever sport she participated in she excelled and contributed to the teams’ success.

Stephanie resided in Clinton, New Jersey, with her wife Beata Zarzycki for 32 years. Beata will be accepting Stephanie’s Award posthumously.
