Options for Palmerton schools
A look at the proposed changes to Palmerton High School and Junior High School, outlined by Michael Kelly of KCBA Architects Tuesday night:
Option 1
• New secure main entry vestibule:
• Admin/reception area
• Six administrative offices
• One conference room
• Nurse’s suite (toilet rooms, exam rooms, cot area, storage)
Proposed second floor plan:
• 3 new classrooms
• 1 small group instruction room (learning support for 8-10 students)
• 2 toilet rooms
• New fire stair
Junior High first floor plan:
• 2 new large classrooms
• Spaces could be devoted to art and music to accommodate additional middle school students
• 1 new band room
• Admin/reception area:
• 6 administrative offices
• 1 conference room
• Nurse’s suite (toilet rooms, exam rooms, cot area, storage)
• Entrance near junior high entrance
• 3 classrooms on second floor
• 2 additional classrooms at link
• Total new construction 13,650 square feet
• Total project budget $10.3 million
Option 2
• 6 new classrooms
• 2 small group instruction room (learning support for 8-10 students)
• 4 toilet rooms
• New fire stair
Proposed administration area: Entrance along Fireline Road
• 6 new classrooms near junior high
• New band/music room
Proposed district office addition: Offices similar to Parkside
• New board room
• Shared entry to auxiliary gym with toilet rooms
• 6,650-square-feet new construction
• $4 million project budget
• Total new construction 18,800 square feet
• Total project budget $13.4 million
Palmerton action plan:
• Jan. 21 regular board meeting
• Meet with teachers and administration
• Feb. 18 board update
• March - December: Document selected construction option for construction
• Submit for township and county building approvals
• Present to the community and school board multiple items
