STC gets $81K for equipment
Rep. Tim Twardzik, R-123, and Sen. David Argall, R-29, announced Schuylkill Technology Centers will receive $81,098 in grant funding from the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
This funding, part of more than $4.5 million awarded statewide to 58 career and technical centers and school districts, aims to support students in achieving success through career and technical education programs.
The grant will allow STC to update or purchase equipment necessary for training students in approved career and technical education programs. The equipment, tailored to meet the needs of local employers, provides students with hands-on experience to prepare them for future careers.
“This investment in career and technical education is an investment in the future of our students and workforce,” Twardzik said. “By equipping Schuylkill Technology Centers with the tools needed for real-world learning, we’re ensuring students have the skills and opportunities to succeed while strengthening the local economy.”
“I’m pleased the important mission of the Schuylkill Technology Center was supported by this highly competitive funding,” Argall said. “There’s a serious need for more skilled employees in the trades across Pennsylvania. As the chair of the Senate Education Committee, I was proud to support increased funding for career and technical centers in last year’s state budget.”
Grant funding will be used to acquire the following equipment:
• The electro-mechanical technology program will receive $4,124 to purchase a Learn Lab Motor Control Trainer to help students learn motor controls and power transmission as well as learn to troubleshoot systems.
• The welding program will receive $16,257 to purchase bandsaws to allow students to train on tasks pertaining to precise metal cuts.
• The automotive program will receive $25,445 to purchase Consulab Advanced Electronics Trainer and Cabinet to enable troubleshooting of electrical systems, and $35,272 to purchase a Tritan Certification Kit to teach students proper use of scan tools for diagnostics.
Career and technical education programs offer students practical, hands-on learning experiences that align with the demands of Pennsylvania’s industries.
